- A tinnitus instrument - a combination of sound generator and hearing aid.
- Hearing aids - This is useful for amplifying the speech and environmental noise and so stimulate ear and brain areas that otherwise cannot receive adequate stimulation due to loss of hearing.
- A Portable or tabletop sound generator - these generators can be purchased at electronic suppliers like Sharper Image.
- Home masking - in which radios, television and electric fans are used.
- Music therapy
Tinnitus retraining therapy (TRT):
Tinnitus retraining therapy is, form of habituation therapy which is used for those people suffering from tinnitus that is ringing ears. Counseling is used in this therapy for explaining to the patients that how combination of sound enrichment and tinnitus retraining can stop the negative reaction to the sound and then reduces their perception. For providing noise level background level, generally noise generators are provided in tinnitus retraining therapy (TRT).
The therapy gives relief and hope for suffers who have the patience and make effort to learn it and implement it. The defective concept within the tinnitus retraining therapy is that there is no any known cure. If patient habituated using TRT, then awareness of the tinnitus often returns to previous level before it becomes problematic.
The starting points for those who wish to start with TRT understand of Heller and Bergman experiment, and Jastroboff model, and sound is received in auditory cortex subconscious auditory neuronal networks.
Music Therapy:
Many patients find classical music which is soothing to limbic system and stimulating to auditory complex.
